Overview
Want a robot vacuum auto empty station that does the bin run for you? The Karcher RVC 3 Comfort Extra vacuums hard floors and low-pile carpets, then docks and the station sucks the dust out of the robot. You empty the station, not the robot, so it can run several times between visits to the bin.
Suction is rated at 15,000 Pa, with a main brush and side brush built to cut down on hair wrapping. LiDAR laser navigation maps each floor. You then set rooms, no-go zones and schedules in the Kärcher Home Robots app.
A clip-on wiping unit with a microfibre cloth adds light mopping on hard floors. The cloth is damped from a small fresh water tank. Take the unit off to vacuum only. The robot is 9.7 cm tall and climbs thresholds up to 25 mm.
What it does
Product Features
The station empties the robot's dust container after cleaning runs. Kärcher calls it a self-emptying station. It means the robot is ready for its next run without you opening it. You only deal with the station's container now and then, which is handy for daily scheduled cleans and homes with pets that shed.
Kärcher rates the RVC 3 at up to 15,000 pascals. That is six times the 2,500 Pa of the older RCV 3. High suction helps lift grit from floorboard gaps and dust from low-pile carpet. You can turn the power up or down per room in the app, so quiet rooms can get a lighter pass.
The side brush has a special shape and the main brush has a comb structure. Kärcher says this greatly reduces hair wrapping. Long hair is a common reason robot vacuums need hands-on cleaning. Less wrapping means fewer times you need to flip the robot over and cut hair off the roller.
A spinning laser scans each room and builds a floor map. The robot then cleans in neat lanes rather than at random. Fall sensors stop it going down stairs. The map lets you name rooms, add no-go zones and send the robot to one spot. It also works in the dark, unlike camera-only robots.
A mop plate with a microfibre cloth clips under the robot. A fresh water tank keeps the cloth lightly damp, which suits dust and light marks on hard floors. It is not a scrubbing mop. Remove the plate for vacuum-only runs. The cloth can go in the washing machine at 60 °C.
The robot can climb door thresholds and edges up to 25 mm high. That gets it from room to room in most UK homes without a ramp. At 9.7 cm tall and 33 cm across, it also fits under many sofas and beds where dust collects out of sight.
Questions
FAQs
Does the Kärcher RVC 3 Comfort Extra empty itself?
Yes. It comes with a charging and suction station. When the robot docks, the station pulls dust out of the robot's container. The robot is then ready for the next run. You empty the station's container when it fills up, which is far less often than emptying the robot by hand after each clean.
What is the difference between the RVC 3 and the RVC 3 Comfort Extra?
Both use the same RVC 3 robot with 15,000 Pa suction and LiDAR navigation. The plain RVC 3 comes with a charging station only. The Comfort Extra version adds a station that empties the robot automatically. Check the box contents on the listing before you buy, as bundles can change.
How strong is the suction on this robot vacuum?
Kärcher rates the RVC 3 at up to 15,000 Pa. For comparison, the older Kärcher RCV 3 is rated at 2,500 Pa and the RCV 5 at 5,000 Pa. Suction power can be set per room in the app. A higher setting uses the battery faster, so run time drops on the strongest level.
Is the RVC 3 a Karcher robot vacuum and mop?
It can wipe hard floors, but it is not a scrubbing mop. A microfibre cloth on a clip-on plate is kept lightly damp from a fresh water tank. That picks up fine dust and light marks. Kärcher describes the RVC series as vacuum specialists with a wiping function. Heavy spills and dried-on stains need a roller or spinning-pad robot.
Will the robot vacuum go on carpets while mopping?
You can stop it. Set no-go zones over rugs in the Kärcher Home Robots app, or remove the wiping unit for vacuum-only runs on carpet. The robot cleans hard floors and low-pile carpets. Deep-pile rugs and shaggy carpets are harder for any robot vacuum of this height.
How high a threshold can the Kärcher RVC 3 climb?
Kärcher says the RVC 3 can get over thresholds and obstacles up to 25 mm high. Most UK door strips are lower than that. Thick rug edges can still cause trouble, especially with the wiping plate fitted, so watch the first few runs and add no-go zones where needed.
Does the RVC 3 Comfort Extra work with a phone app?
Yes. It uses the Kärcher Home Robots app over Wi-Fi. You can save maps for more than one floor, split rooms, set schedules and change suction or water level per room. The app also tracks how worn the brushes and filter are, so you know when to swap them.
Is a self empty robot vacuum worth it?
For most homes, yes, if you plan to run the robot daily. Without a station you empty a small dust box after one or two runs. With one, the robot keeps going for days. It suits pet owners and busy households. The trade-off is a bigger dock that needs floor space by a socket.
